Who is SydWest Multicultural Services, and who are its subsidiaries Participate Australia and Riverlink?

SydWest Multicultural Services is a leading organisation for multicultural and diversity issues responding to community needs and opportunities throughout Greater Western Sydney, Western Sydney and the Inner West of Sydney. SydWest was established in 1985, with its head office in Blacktown.
Participate Australia is SydWest’s NDIS provider, based in Croydon and North Strathfield. We support people living with disability to achieve the things that are important to them so that they can live the life they want to live. Participate Australia was established in 1983.
Riverlink is SydWest’s boutique NDIS provider, based in North Parramatta, supporting individuals with disabilities and their carers. We prioritise understanding your unique requirements providing tailored solutions. Riverlink was established in 1987.

I already work some days of the week; how do I fit a role at your organisation into my week?

We offer workday start and finish time flexibility (within reason)
We offer casual roles
You have control over the number of hours you work (no more than 76 hrs in a fortnight)

I have a long commute; can I work around this?

Yes, you have the option to choose the location in which you would like to work at (when shifts are available) ensuring that it aligns with your commuting needs.

What qualifications do I need?

NDIS Workers Clearance Check (you can apply if you don’t have one)
First Aid certificate and CPR (you can apply if you don’t have one)
Working with Children Check (you can apply if you don’t have one)
Certificate III (Candidates studying towards their Certificate III can usually be considered for employment if they have relevant experience)

I’m worried about making a mistake when on the job with a client. How do you guideand support workers?

You will receive thorough training when you begin including a 1-day induction programme
You may be assigned a dedicated ‘work buddy’ who joins you on first two client visits (should your participant’s support needs require extra guidance)
You will have a supportive team to guide you and support you
You can call a team of Support Facilitators immediately, if you need help

Is there variety in the role?

Yes. You can be helping participants with personal care, domestic care, shopping or even group-based activities (subject to shift availability).

I would like a career, not just a job – can you offer this?

We invest in your learning and development through goal setting, development plans and ongoing training. Many team members have grown within our organisation, for example one of our friendly workers started as a Support Worker and has progressed into a senior role. We also offer our staff new job opportunities within the organisation for further career growth.

Do I need to use my own car to get around?

Yes, we compensate you for the kilometres that you drive while transporting participant(s). On occasion you will need to drive a company vehicle.
